The trip during this last winter was extended to Bali, it was well worth the effort as we discovered a mystical island with wonderful people, climate, and the right ingredients for an affordable start to our community. The cost of construction is very reasonable and we can grow food all year round here also. But mostly it just feels right. We still like Salt Spring Island and the Big Island of Hawaii , they will make great sister communities after we get started here. Currently we are talking to people, researching different areas etc and generally living a nice lifestyle. Here are a few pictures to let you tap into the Bali vibes.

Winter Update 2010/2011

It's been a while since our last post. Busy working and working this year to get to our goal. We are going to travel this winter and look for an alternate location in Hawaii. The climate is obviously better than here and all kinds of food will grow all year round. It's been great to hear from all the people who are attracted to this vision and would be so great if we had the land and the ability to receive people. It's going to take a little longer though. People of true action are few and far between and people with the money to make a community happen are even fewer. So seeing as we are a few of those people we are going to go and make the money to get this community started!

Lotus Yoga Studio

Here is our plan for a small yoga studio. We plan to use insulated rammed earth for the walls, a very energy efficient, durable and beautiful way to build. The building will be heated by hot water either from radiators or in floor heating, with the energy coming form an environmentally friendly source. The indoor air quality will be superb with healthy finishes and natural materials being used. Inside the design evokes feelings of being inside a temple built with sacred geometry. Plenty of windows for a light filled space and beautiful sacred art for an elevated ambiance. When can I visit or move in?

After some time.......as they say in India, which means a while.... but not defined. Currently we still need the land and once we have the land we need to start building. People who are suitable to join us first need to have money to invest or have construction skills or be able to work physically. Developing the physical infrastructure of the property is key to be able to host future members and accept guests who want to visit.

To get an idea of the short term time line once the money is in place and the land is secured.
1st year - house 6 people, the investors and construction workers
2nd year - house 12 more people - adding gardeners to the mix, near end of year ability to accept visitors. build small yoga studio.

Children are welcome with any of the people who are participating.

This plan can always be accelerated with more capital...we are open to this.

We need to work with people who are very motivated to manifest this vision, please only contact us if you are the type of person who can follow through on something. Are you the type of person who can hold their focus (emotionally + mentally) on a dream and regardless of circumstance, continue to believe and take the necessary actions to create that reality? Because this is what is takes at this point in time, a passing interest or wanting but not following through are not enough. This is a call to people with determination and courage...people who take action and are willing to commit their talent and resources to live the way we were meant to live!

Spring is here..finally!

Spring is here and the winter that lasted 1000 years is now over! The land deal we were working on melted away like the winter snow and like the winter snow we were not sad to see it go......... The spring is now here and the flowers are starting to bloom, it's a period of growth and beauty and for this we are ready. Our plan currently is to work and save up more money until the fall and then let our plan unfold, we are committed to building this winter. We will be exploring other locations to start our eco village while still being committed to Salt Spring. First we will source out other sunny locations that we can start our eco village in, such as Thailand etc. Our plan all along has been to build Yoga Eco Villages in many locations so this is not a deviation from the plan just an adjustment in the order of locations. The advantage to this approach is that our resources go so much further and we can start building by the end of this year.

What has been happening?

We have been out working to make money to sustain our unsustainable lifestyles until we can get our land acquired. We have been negotiating with a land owner to acquire his property for 8 months or so.. it's a little complicated.. so it's taking time and the current financial climate is making things more interesting. In addition, we keep looking for other land opportunities.

People have continued to contact us from all over the world who are interested in joining us. Several of these people are suitable community members but need us to be established to come and join us. The same can be said for some people to invest their money and this is why it takes time, so be patient for those who want to move to our community your opportunity is nearing. There are a lot of wonderful people in the world and there is certainly a lot of money too..let's bring these 2 together and fulfill our destinies.

What about pets?

As stated in our website: "As we desire a lifestyle that is harmonious and sustainable, our land is free of animals and pets". This is a choice we have made on the way we want to live and it is a firm decision with no gray areas. It is not to say that there is anything wrong or right with pets, that is a matter of personal opinion. We understand that there are wonderful people who would like to be part of our community and who we would love to associate with. We are open in the future to purchasing land beside or near the village so people with pets could live there and be full members of the community as neighbors, this will take at least a couple of years to manifest. It is important for us to meet each other in the ways we can and if there are lifestyle choices that are not compatible then we need to seek solutions for the ones we can.

How Much does it cost to join?

Each person buys $6,000 worth of shares in our Community Building Co. It is similar to a membership fee if you will, the shares cannot be sold or traded and a person will receive dividends and benefits for life on these shares. Every person who is compatible with us will be allowed to participate regardless of their financial position so we can negotiate terms that are mutually agreed ie(monthly payments). People who want to help over and above the initial $6,000 can make a shareholder loan to the company and will be returned their investment + dividends according to agreed upon terms. We will get to know each other for a year and either party can request the shares be refunded. After the 1st year the shares are non-refundable. Why? We are growing something together and it is important to let it keep growing,this is only for people who are willing to go beyond their "little me" ,we are creating a gift of love to the world.

A person will still receive cash dividends from their shares for the rest of their life whether they stay or go, so there will be plenty of financial compensation for this small amount of money. In the end for the right people to join it costs nothing and if they continue to live the way they currently are, it costs everything !

When can I move in?

It would be possible for us to house 5-7 people in our first year when we have the necessary funding and 10-14 more next year. For those selected for these openings it depends on a persons level of commitment. The people who work with us to make this a reality are housed first. The more you put in the more you get out, whether it is your efforts or money. We are people of vision and action and want to work with motivated people. So with that said there are a core group of us and many people who are interested that would make good community members but people of action get housed first. Which are you? Land Status

We are in the process of raising more money to acquire land. We have a simple and practical strategy to scale up to our full community size of 80 - 100 people. First we will buy a 5 acre lot and on it build a house, cottage, yoga studio and workshop. Remember, several of us are environmental builders so this is easily do-able. We will then rent the buildings out to ourselves, refinance the property and buy another 5 acre property and do it again. The general idea is to progressively buy larger properties and subdivide or re-zone them, since this takes time we will keep ourselves busy with small properties.
